I met an actual blacksmith once. Not like, someone who does blacksmithing for fun, but someone whose job was being accurately representing traditional blacksmithing. He was making nails. For a house. One at a time. By hand. For an _entire house_ He was an experienced blacksmith, so it only took him about a minute to make each individual nail. _For an entire house_

as someone who used to work as a blacksmith, no there isnt a lot of light, and with good reason actually, it makes you see the colour of the metal better, which is important both whne you are tempering and folding it ^^ LOL - i keep laughing at this "you keep saying do this but never tell me how" my boss as a blacksmith was like that... and why is the hammering so slow xD

I can tell you, smithing isn't easy work... it's hot as hell and requires skill, strength and hand-to-eye coordination. When I was in 8th grade, my school's shop class had a small forge - I was the lone girl in a class full of boys since I sucked at textile crafts and was more at home working with wood and metal. The easiest item we made in that class was a sauna ladle (with a copper scoop), while the most difficult was a metallic flower (stem, leaves and petals and all). I still have that flower after 19 years. We did more than smithing too, including a small machine that "smells" electric wiring behind walls. Soldering those circuits, man... I managed to burn a few strands of my hair off with the soldering iron. 😂

I think this is a good game, It just has some glitches that need to be fixed, and there are some things they could add or change to make it better but overall its super cool and it seems fun.

Mystic Seaport made me want to become a blacksmith just so I could build my own swords. And the idea of being around hot molten metal was highly appealing. Now, I still think it would be cool to make my own weapons, but understanding the human brain in all aspects is way more interesting.

I had an Air Force buddy that was a blacksmiths apprentice. It's because of that that we realized testing out the smithy projects when you have no practical experience in using medieval armor/weapons is probably not the best thing to do. My friend came back from a stint of leave with a chainmail gown his teacher made him. One of those shoulder to ankle deals. It just so happened me and my drunken entourage checked up on him after he just finished a full shafted spear with a leaf tip made of steel. The spear was 6.5 - 7 feet long. I need to pause for a bit of retrospective hypothesis here... I have a pet theory that the more drunken 20 something males there are in a tight space the lower the collective IQ goes. If you are in a room with one or two other average to high IQ males in that age range, there's not too much to worry about, but, I think past that our collective IQ reduces by 10 per male including the first 3... like some sort of IQ switch that triggers as soon as there's a 4th drunken masculine person in the room... That being said... There were 9 of us, even my blacksmith buddy was plastered after a while. About that time is when the stupid really escalated. I don't remember who came up with the genius idea as we were locked in some sort of alcohol induced collective stupidity, all I know is someone suggested we test out the wares... There was no practice dummy... I decided to be the first to test out how protective the chainmail was, so I donned it and one of them grabbed the spear and started jabbing, I was safe. Now, this is where most people possessed by stupid when sober would call it a day and be done with it or at least have someone else try the gown on. Not us, so, the tried the spear with more people slamming it into the chainmail like a battering ram. Nothing, so they added more people to the group, still nothing. At this point they were almost satisfied till I asked them to try stabbing me with my Gerber Gator-rater (a tactical pocket knife with a 3-4 inch blade, the top part shaped like a conventional knife, the bottom part serrated with razor sharpness). I got a bit of a scratch when they stabbed me repeatedly with the knife, but it didn't draw any blood. I learned 2 things from that encounter. The gods must for some reason or other have favored me that day and my buddies teacher made some pretty solid chainmail is the first lesson; secondly, try to drink with less than 9 masculine personalities at all times lest the stupid overwhelm and possess us again.

Fantasy Blacksmith is one of the most unintuitive games I've ever played. I'm super glad I got it for free through Humble Choice. There's about 6 or 7 entirely unexplained mechanics that are IMPERITIVE to the experience. Each metal has an ideal heating temperature, you have to reach a certain point in the 'story' to be able to mine, you saw for yourself how terrible the thermometer mechanics were explained. It is literally the only game I've played where there wasn't even a shred of redemption available to it. 1 of 5 stars, I'd give it negative if I could.
